Religion Enslaves, Christ Liberates

Aaron Currin

Raised in a great Christian home, I read the Bible, taught the Bible, went to Bible college, and was even ordained but had never been transformed by the Spirit of God. Then, by His sovereign design and infinite mercy, God stepped in, resurrected my heart, enabled my will, and slammed me with grace. Saving me from sin, self, and the stagnancy of religion, He placed within me a burning desire to actually know Him - seeking Him through His Word and proclaiming Him through my life and lips.

In 2006 I met Danielle (Dink), and we were married just a few months later. Other than studying theology and shepherding the worshippers in BLDG 28, I love relaxing with friends, playing sports, reading, traveling domestically and abroad, eating unhealthy, sleeping late, toying with the guitar, and watching North Carolina basketball, Georgia football, and Braves baseball.

Top 10 Books that have most changed my life (in addition to Scripture):
1. The Pilgrim's Progress by John Bunyan
2. The Cost of Discipleship by Deitrich Bonhoeffer
3. The Death of Deaths in the Death of Christ by John Owen
4. The Institutes of the Christian Religion by John Calvin
5. The Fountain of Life by John Flavel
6. Foxe's Book of Martyrs by John Foxe
7. All of Grace by Charles Spurgeon
8. The Misery of Job and the Mercy of God by John Piper
9. The Life and Times of George Whitefield by Arnold Dallimore
10. The Pursuit of God by A.W. Tozer

I grew up in Georgia, the oldest of three brothers. We were always playing sports, getting muddy, and beating up on each other. I went to Georgia Southwestern on a tennis scholarship and am now finishing up my college “career” at Clearwater Christian College.

Picture a giggly, cute, little blonde and that’s my amazing (and gorgeous) wife Chardea. I also have a cute little theologian now in the household, my son Jaxon, born in March of last year. As for me? Well, I’m goofy, out-going, and spontaneous. I still love playing tennis, football, and basketball, and there is little better on a Saturday afternoon than gathering with the Christian brothers to chow on chips and salsa and watch some pigskin.

After years of running from Him, God finally took hold of my life through His mercy and changed me completely. I now know that He has given me gifts to effectively lead others and called me into the ministry of declaring His truth.

Mike Brown

I was born in Missouri, but grew up in Texas, with football in my blood. I moved to Florida in 1975 where I graduated from Tampa College, with a degree in Computer Science, and met my true love, Joan, while attending a church in the area. We have been married now for 31 years and are the proud parents of 3 children: Doug, and my twin daughters, Tiffany and Stephanie. Last June I became the father-in-law to Doug’s new bride, Tiffanie.

I was raised in a loving Christian home and made a profession when I was young. However, it was not until I was 22 that I truly surrendered my life to follow Jesus.  Through the conviction of the Holy Spirit and true repentance God led me to that narrow road of salvation. Throughout the entire process my godly parents were there, praying for me and cheering me on in Christ.

My goal at BLDG 28 is to be the best elder that I can possibly be, as a dedicated and humble servant of God to His people. I would personally appreciate your prayer as myself and the other elders strive to oversee the ministry, administration, and discipline of BLDG 28 Church.

I grew up in Texas, playing just about every sport you can think of. Upon completion of high school I became a Longhorn, studying in Austin. It was there that the Lord drew me to Himself, saving my soul. While enrolled at the Univerity of Texas I met my future wife Robbin.

After years in Clearwater, we landed at BLDG 28 in the summer of 2011. Instantly the Lord seemed to connect us with the people and the leadership and we knew that this is where He would have us worship and serve. I truly count it a privilege to lead and serve the believers at BLDG 28.

I grew up right here in Pinellas County going to church every weekend and getting to know the Lord at an early age. After high school I set off for the University of Florida where I met and fell in love with my eventual wife, Kristin. I have been with BLDG 28 since the very beginning and love seeing what Christ is doing in and through this church family.

Jesus Christ came into my life in my late 20's and I have never been the same since. I have a wonderful wife Diane, and two incredible daughters, Kelly and Mikayla. For the past several years I have been on the board of S.O.S. Ministries, serving alongside church planters all over the world. Diane and I are thrilled that the Lord has lead us to BLDG 28 and enjoy serving God's people in this faith family.

Ryan Cotton

I love golfing, guns, dogs, and cars. I also love Jesus and love serving His church here at BLDG 28. Currently I serve as a firefighter/paramedic in Pinellas County and my wife Jenny teaches middle school. The Lord led us to BLDG 28 in 2010 and since that time we have traveled on mission trips with the church and grown incredibly close to the people of this faith family. We look forward to seeing what God has in store for the future of our church!
